Tae kwon do tourney kicks off Sunday
TOP jins from contending teams will strut their stuff as the Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Christmas Taekwondo Tournament kicks off Sunday, December 12, at the SM City Davao entertainment plaza.
Tournament director Jun Te said, "The Davao Taekwondo Center, University of Mindanao, Philippine Army 11 Panthers, Marco Polo, Rising Dragon, Ateneo de Davao University, Holiday Spa and Eagles Claw confirmed to field their entries."
Te said they are expecting 120 jins who will see action in 36 events.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three players in every event of each category.
The top three teams, based on the medal standings, will receive trophies.
"We will not have cash prizes in this tournament compared to other sports events in the Christmas sportsfest since we have a total of 36 events. We would need a huge amount if we will award cash prizes. Medals will do," Te explained.
He said the one-day activity will feature grade school, mid juniors, juniors and seniors' men and women divisions.
The taekwondo meet is sponsored by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (MLS)
