By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

THREE British commercial market experts were in Davao City last week to establish strong fishing and agribusiness partnership with Davao Region.

Phillip Pabelic, external affairs advocacy officer of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), said during an interview Friday that the British mission was anchored on the idea of getting prospective products and investors from Davao City to be brought to United Kingdom and some other British areas.

"Basically, it was a trade mission. Gusto nila nga i-broaden ang network sa British embassy dinhi sa Pilipinas especially among the SMEs (small and medium-scale enterprises) of Davao City and other nearby provinces," he said.

The British mission was also interested to establish ties with the agribusiness exporters of Mindanao, specifically those who are based in Davao Region.

"The envoys actually represented the British-owned companies in UK and Great Britain. Gusto nila nga mga products gyud from Davao Region are mango and banana. They are really interested in partnering with the region in terms of development activities," he said.

The mission has have already expressed commitment to help the Chamber in finding efficient measures, including extending financial assistance to the region's SMEs, on how to augur development within the region.

"One of the major things nga himuon sa British commercial market experts would be business matching. They would look for possible buyers in UK and possible producers from Davao region," he said.

Pabelic said the mission also expressed their commitment to assist Filipino professionals to have their jobs in UK and Great Britain.
