Drug enforcement agent accused of planting evidence
* Complaint filed by son of Fabie Maternity Hospital owner as result of "buy-bust" last August in complainant's internet café
A POLICEMAN detailed at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has been slapped with charges before the City Prosecutor's Office (CPO) for allegedly "planting evidence" against a son of a hospital owner during a buy-bust operation in Davao City last August.
Facing charges is PO1 Anthony Alpiz of the PDEA 11 office based on the complaint filed by 26-year-old Steve Robin Fabie, the son of the Fabie Maternity Hospital owner.
Fabie said that he was inside his Internet cafe, the "Big S Gaming Cafe" on Rizal St., Davao City at around 6 p.m. on August 12 when Alpiz and elements of the PDEA came and searched his place.
PDEA served a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 17 Judge Renato A. Fuentes.
He said that he was just surprised when members of the media arrived later and the next thing he knew, a sachet of shabu worth P500 was already placed beside his cellphone.
Fabie denied that no buy-bust operation had transpired, and no marked money was recovered from him.
"Paano mangyari na may buy-bust operation, kagagaling lang namin sa beach kasi birthday ng mama ko. Walang buy-bust na nangyari. Nag-serve sila ng search warrant so pina-check ko ang place in good faith. May pinirmahan nga ako na wala silang nakuha sa cafe ko," Fabie earlier told reporters.
Fabie also claimed that the drug test conducted on him proved negative. Fabie is facing pending charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) before RTC Branch 9. (RCB)
