P8M lost in fire By Joy G. Romares
AROUND eight million pesos worth of property was lost in a fire that razed through a hardware store just thirty minutes after the four-hour long power interruption was restored downtown, Monday night.
Joselito Occidental, owner of the Occidental Hardware located at the corner Magallanes Street and Quirino Avenue, believes the fire started with a short circuit.
The incident happened at around 8 p.m., thirty minutes after power was restored.
Apparently, something was left on when power went off at around 4 p.m.
The surge of electricity when power was restored could have triggered the fire.
The fire lasted for about one and a half hour.
It was controlled at around 9:45 p.m. by the Bangoy Fire Station, Filipino-Chinese Fire Volunteer Brigade, and Central Fire Station.
Meanwhile, commuters who were on their way home, were caught in a horrendous gridlock.
Passenger jeepneys enroute to Matina and Puan had to take the Ecoland route since police closed the road from corner Magallanes Street to the Bankerohan overpass.
