Villaflor-Pasaje pair rules women's doubles

MICMIC Villaflor of the Mindanao Times and Arlene Pasaje of the Mindanao Daily Mirror captured the women's doubles crown Tuesday in the 1st Gene Boyd Lumawag Badminton Cup at the Smash N' Drop.

The pair of Gigie Agtay and Aurea Gerundio of Sun.Star Davao finished second while the tandem of Chiclet Coronado and Susan Paredes of UMBN-Radyo Ukay placed
third.

Villaflor and Pasaje won the champion's purse of P4,000, and a triophy while Agtay and Gerundio took P3,000 plus medals. Coronado and Paredes settled for P2,000 and medals.

The finals match in the men's doubles and mixed doubles are still being played as of press time.

The event, held in honor of the late photojournalist Gene Boyd Lumawag, was organized by Davao City Councilor Leonardo Avila in cooperation with the Davao Sportswriters Association and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas.
