Quedancor financial services benefit 552-T as of November
By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

THE Quedan and Rural Credit Guarantee Corporation (Quedancor) reported that as of November 2004, the agency has already released a total of P4.3 billion to 552,372 beneficiaries throughout the country.

Marissa Caparaz, vice president of Quedancor's planning services office, said during the Financing and Property Forum held last week in Davao City that their primary clientele are the marginalized farmers, fisherfolks, and agri-entrepreneurs. Caparaz said Mindanao, being an agricultural land, got 32 percent of the total amount, next to Luzon's 45 percent, while Visayas received 23 percent.

Meanwhile, Caparaz said that Quedancor is now implementing an innovative version of loan delivery to its clients, both for agriculture and non-agriculture sectors.

"Quedancor acknowledges the significance of spawning an efficient and sustainable micro-finance loan to small borrowers. Thus, the corporation saw the need to come up with innovations in the delivery of credit especially through the Self-Reliant Team or SRT," she said.

SRT is an informal group of three to 15 members with same or related project and living in the same area.

The model has the following features: a package of innovative collateral-free loan, technology, and market access; to cover viable mono-crop, multi-crop planting, integrated farm production activities and/or other livelihood projects of self-reliant farmers and fisher folks; and ensures access to credit of marginalized borrowers.

Among the projects and commodities under SRT model are grains, fisheries, livestock and poultry, high-value crops, and livelihood.
