16th vigilante death victim not a bad guy
By Joy G. Romares

THE latest and the 16th victim killed vigilante-style in Ulas last Monday night does not have any police record.

SPO4 Cecil Mac Blanco, chief investigator of the Talomo Police Precinct, told Sun.Star Davao that Hilario Ortega, 39, laborer of the Coca-Cola Plant in Ulas, has not been monitored to be involved in illegal activities, nor has he figured in any neighborhood squabbles that required police attention.

The victim's wife Gina and his sister Girlie, said Ortega has not even offended anyone in their place.

Blanco, however, said that Ortega's kin themselves admitted that in the latter part of last week, the victim brought in some armed men to stay the night at their house.

Ortega claimed the men were his friends although it is believed that the armed men were rebels or rebel supporters.

The victim's relatives refuse to give any further information about these mysterious visitors.

Ortega was drinking liquor with his friends Roger Rivera, Romulo Camos and Alfredo Canonio at 3Mar's store located in front of the Coca-Cola Plant at around 7:45 p.m. when two unidentified men on board a motorcycle appeared.

One of the men pulled out a caliber .45 pistol and shot the victim several times.

The victim died on the spot while the suspects immediately fled.

Police recovered four empty shells and two slugs of caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

The 15th victim of the unidentified gunmen believed to be vigilantes for this month alone was killed in Toril this city, earlier on the same day.

At around 4 p.m. Gerardo Capiceño, 43, who was just released from Toril police station for a rape case, was walking on his way home in Marapangi 3, Toril when he was shot by two unidentified men.

The suspects sped off onboard a motorcycle after the incident.
