Drug suspect turned over to anti-drug agency's custody
By Ben O. Tesiorna

DRUG suspect Jessie Jones "Jhong" Pilapil was finally turned over by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 11 to the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 11 for investigation.

As promised by NBI 11 Chief Reynaldo Wycoco on Monday, Pilapil was escorted by two NBI agents to the PDEA office at around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Pilapil, an industrial engineer by profession and one of the incorporators of the businesses owned by suspected drug lord Allan Sy, surrendered to the NBI recently because he feared the wrath of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

In a telephone interview, PDEA 11 director Superintendent Wilkins Villanueva said they had already prepared the prison cell for Pilapil.

Asked of their immediate plans after taking custody of Pilapil, Villanueva said they will have to talk with the suspect's lawyer first.

"Parang voluntary surrender kasi yung nangyari kay Pilapil eh. So we have to discuss matters first with his lawyer," Vilanueva said.

The PDEA chief admitted that without a warrant of arrest issued by the court, Pilapil could choose whether to stay at the PDEA office for security reasons or go somewhere else.

Villanueva said they are however expediting the process so that a warrant of arrest would be issued against the suspects.

Aside from Pilapil, included in the list of suspects are Jed Pilapil-Sy, Allan Sy and Carlos Sy. Jed and Carlos Sy are already in the custody of the PDEA 11.

Only Allan Sy remains at large as of press time.

Duterte however assured that all of the suspects connected with the shabu laboratory operation in Dumoy had been accounted for.

Pilapil was presented to the media Monday morning by NBI Chief Reynaldo Wycoco at the NBI 11 office.
