Sailors crush Blue Knights
By Marianne L. Saberon

THE Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors crushed the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) Blue Knights, 84-64, Monday night in the Pahalipay ni Mayor Tertiary Basketball Tournament at the Almendras gym.

The Blue Knights of coach Pochollo Elegino were ahead 24-16 in the first quarter, but the Sailors put up stiff defense to limit Elegino's wards to nine points in the second canto for a 35-33 advantage at halftime.

A seesaw battle then ensued at the start of the second half but the Sailors capitalized on their shooting expertise to convert more points against the Blue Knights enroute to the win.

The Sailors also toyed with the hapless Maranao Tribe, 148-78, over the weekend.

Blue Knights' loss came on the heels of their 64-83 defeat at the hands of the Davao College of Southern Saturday night.

A slot in the Champions League set in Cebu City next month awaits the champion team.

Cash prizes will also be awarded by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte to the winners.

The basketball event is sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) under regional director Regino Cua.

The boxscores:

Agro 84 - Guardiario 19, Ardinio 18, Fortuna 12, Bongcales 8, Amatasa 7, Galon 7, Duyaz 6, Delica 4, Montalban 4, Caminade 2, Ebarola 2, Soria 2
