Evidence against 5 blast suspects to be presented
By Raquel C. Bagnol

THE prosecution panel is set to present evidence before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) against the five original suspects in the twin bombings that rocked Davao City in 2003 during the scheduled hearing on Friday, assistant city prosecutor Augusto Gonzales said.

The five are Esmael Mamalangkas, Esmael Akmad, Ting Idar, Tohame Bagundang, and Jimmy Balulao.

All five suspects, who were arrested in Cotabato City in April 2003, denied the allegations during their separate arraignment.

Gonzales said that based on the evidences they have at hand, the five original suspects in the bombings of the Davao International Airport (DIA) and the Sasa Wharf on March 4 and April 2, 2003 respectively are still the prime suspects despite the four new suspects presented by the military in Manila.

The court was baffled over which group to bring to trial when the second set of suspects identified as Daud Guinaid, Abdul Manap Mentang, Abdul Rahman Camile and Rio Dimson Managat were separately arrested by Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) and turned over to the Ma-a City Jail.

Suspects Camile and Mentang were earlier released after ISAFP failed to authenticate the evidences they presented after the 40 days given by the City Prosecutor's Office lapsed.

Gonzales said they might also consider the Motion for Judicial Determination of Probable Cause filed by Guinaid and the Motion for Release from Detention filed by Managat for the pending charges of multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder.
