Gradual relief of 36th Infantry Brigade already going on
* Rotation of command is a routine exercise in the military and should not be tainted with doubts by the miners, Bagasin says
UNKNOWN to opposing Diwalwal miners, soldiers from the Army's 28th Infantry Battalion (IB) are slowly and discreetly replacing those from the 36th IB in securing the conflict-torn gold rush mountain in Monkayo, Compostela Valley.
Major General Samuel Bagasin, chief of the Army's 4th Infantry Division, said they made it in a very discreet manner to avoid violent reactions from the thousands of small miners in Diwalwal who openly expressed their opposition to the impending turnover of command.
"Actually nag-umpisa na yung gradual relief in place by the 28th IB dun sa 36th IB. It has to be done gradually. There are some elements sa 36th IB dun sa mining area na napalitan na ng 28th IB without the miners noticing it," Bagasin said.
He assured the miners that soldiers of the 28th IB are as good if not better than the 36th IB.
He said a rotation of command is a routine exercise in the military and should not be tainted with doubts by the miners.
The 28th IB is presently under Colonel Oscar Solamo.
Bagasin said once the turnover has been completed, Solamo would be replaced by Colonel Boy Caraig.
The 36th IB under Lieutenant Colonel Pat Morales will be deployed to the Agusan del Sur and Surigao area. (BOT)
