Remains of overseas worker arrive from Riyadh By Aurea A. Gerundio
THE remains of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Suelito Leong, who was found dead at a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia after a vehicular accident, will arrive at the Davao International Airport early morning Sunday.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) 11 director Zenobia Caro said the remains of Leong arrived from Saudi Arabia in Manila at around 3 p.m. Saturday.
"Hindi na kasi mahahabol sa next flight to Davao kasi may aasikasuhin pa na mga papeles sa Manila. The scheduled arrival of his remains in Davao City is 6:45 a.m. Sunday," Caro said.
Amalia, wife of Leong, said she is still processing the death certificate of her husband to get their insurance benefits from Owwa.
In the first week of February, Caro said the Owwa will release P220,000 insurance benefits to the family Leong.
Caro said they are just waiting for the family of Leong to furnish Owwa the death certificate and certified copy of passport of Leong before releasing the insurance.
"Ang insurance talaga is P100,000. But since he died in an accident, doble ang matatanggap ng mga beneficiaries ni Leong. Ready na ang application ng wife ni Leong for the release of the insurance but we need the death certificate and certified copy of his passport," Caro said.
Earlier reports showed Leong figured in a vehicular accident in Riyadh. He was said to have died a day after he was reported missing on January 11.
Leong was positively identified by three of his co-workers at the Al-Imam hospital in Riyadh.
Leong, 40, reportedly worked as a power technician for Detecon al-Saudi for the past eight months. Amalia, however, said Leong had been working in Saudi Arabia since 1997.
The Leong couple has three children: Keren, 17, a nursing student, Kim, 14, first year high school student and Kevin, 10, a grade four pupil.
