Strictly for the birds By Jojie Alcantara Witerary
PHOTOGRAPHERS have something new to crow about, to use the pun. There is a treasure trove in the municipality of Carmen, and upon the invitation of mayor Gaviola and coordination of eco-watcher and crusader Councilor Leo Avila, around 15 people took an afternoon trip for a huge bird watching event being organized.
Members and photographers of different news agency, the Department of Tourism, the Camera Club of Davao (CCD), Davao Gulf Management, TV networks, and guests had a grand time staying overnight to take beautiful photographs of migratory birds taking flight during sunset and sunrise.
Two sites were visited: Barangays Isip and the mudflats of La Paz where different bird species interacted and made a great show of diving for food. Some lensmen had to wade through the mud to get zoom shots. Skies were covered with multitudes of wings as birds took flight in simultaneous motion.
If you're interested, you may call the office of Councilor Avila for more info on a possible trip or details on how to join the photo contest. A bird's eye view of fellow photographers in action is provided by Rhonson Ng.
