Holy Cross ready for national competitions
THE Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) men's basketball and women's volleyball teams are all ready to do battle in national tournaments.
HCDC sports director Abraham "Abe" Verdperado said their basketball team will compete in the BAP Inter-Collegiate on February 28 to March 5 in Dumaguete City while the volleyball team will join the Women's National Colleges Athletic Association (WNCAA) meet on February 25 to 28 in Legazpi City."
Verdeprado said he is confident that the HCDC Crusaders, though may be lacking in height, had prepared long and hard for the event.
"We expect most teams that will compete are taller than ours. We really don't have tall players but I'm confident coach Jigger Saniel will lead the team to a good finish," Verdeprado said.
He said the team will bank on its experience in the DACS 2004, DC-Prisaa Meet 2004, 2nd Gaisano South Cup and adidas Streetball Asian Finals, among others.
Verdeprado said the Exequiel Tomines-coached HCDC women's volleyball team, DC-Prisaa 2005 champion, is a very competitive team.
"The team wanted to test itself against other teams from Metro Manila," Verdeprado said.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, through executive assistant and city sports coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go, will reportedly extend financial assistance to the HCDC teams. (MLS)
