Not guilty, JB's widow says of estafa charges
THE widow of the slain Monkayo Mayor Joel Brillantes pleaded not guilty to the six counts of estafa through falsification of public documents charges filed against her by the family of her late live-in partner.
Antonina "Nene" Abejar-Rada pleaded not guilty to the charges during her arraignment before the court last Friday, March 18.
Rada was accused by the family of the late Mayor Brillantes of forging the signature of the slain mayor so she could transfer the properties of Brillantes to her own son and daughter.
Also included in the charges were Gilbert and Josephine Abejar-Rada, siblings of Nene Rada.
Judge Emmanuel Carpio of the Regional Trial Court Branch 16 scheduled the trial on May 10.
The Davao City Prosecutor's Office formally charged the respondents before the court after the National Bureau of Investigation attested that the signatures found in the deeds of sale and those taken from other documents with JB's signatures were not written by one and the same person.
The Radas denied the charges. (BOT)
