Casaljay in Gavina race By Marianne L. Saberon
RUEL Casaljay, Davao City's veteran Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaigner, is the favorite when the Mayor Rey Gavina Summer Cup Mountain Bike Race kicks off Sunday in Panabo City.
But Casaljay is expecting a very stiff contest as fellow Davao Pobre Bikers Association (Dapoba) riders Glenn Yap, Hilario Ladra and Glenn Ibañez will also be in the cast.
Recently crowned Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Tour de Davao champion Jun Lada who bested seasoned bikers in the two-stage race will not be a pushover.
The 30-kilometer Panabo cross-country event features the open expert, junior-elite, senior-elite, veteran 35 years old and above and the touring class recreational categories.
Cash prizes and trophies await the top three finishers in each division. Registration fee is P150 inclusive of race kit and refreshments.
Interested participants may register on the day of the activity at the Panabo City Hall grounds from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The Panabo United Mountain Pedallers (Pump) is organizing the bikefest in coordination with the Federation of Off-Road Cycling Enthusiasts (Force).
