Parents of hooligans told: Buy casket now while cheap

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte again warned youngsters involved in hooliganism to reform now or face severe repercussions.

The mayor at the same time advised parents of hooligans to better buy casket for their children this early while it is still cheap.

"Kamong mga ginikanan nga buluyagon ang mga anak, pamalit na lang mo ug lungon karon kay barato pa (You parents who cannot control your children, better buy caskets now while it's cheap)," Duterte said saying that some funeral service companies take advantage of grieving relatives and jack up the price of caskets when these are bought at the time when already needed.

The mayor made the warning after a complaint was read by program host Cristie Navacilla-Garcia regarding a group of youths armed with knives and improvised darts who usually terrorize drivers at the corner of C.M. Recto and Roxas Avenue usually between 8 to 9 p.m., demanding money from both drivers and conductors.

The mayor said hardened criminals learn the tricks from childhood, especially when parents conveniently look the other way when they are terrorizing their community. "Diha na nagasugod, sa delihensiya-delihensiya (That's where it starts, when the young start demanding money)," the mayor said.

A television footage aired over ABS-CBN last week showed youngsters clashing with rival gang members at the wee hour of the morning along Quezon Boulevard.

Residents in the area said the barangay officials and even the police are helpless in stopping these gang wars.

It was learned that gang members could easily hide once cops arrive at the area and return back to the streets after the police had left for another round of rioting.

Davao City Police Office director Superintendent Conrado Laza admitted the proliferation of gang wars in the city thus deciding to treat these incidents like terrorism. (BOT)
