Slain mayor's widow brands NBI probe biased
THE widow of slain Monkayo Mayor Joel "JB" Brillantes will seek the help of the Department of Justice in questioning the alleged biased investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the complaint of a lawyer against her.
In an interview Saturday, Nene Abejar-Rada said the NBI investigation on the complaint of lawyer Ruben Abarquez accusing her of grave threats is biased since she was not even asked by the NBI to air her side.
Rada also questioned the involvement of the NBI in the case saying this is the second time that a complaint was filed against her with the help of the investigating agency.
"Dapat sana pinatawag ako ng NBI habang nagiimbestiga sila. Hindi yong malalaman ko lang na may complaint pala sa akin matapos ito mai-file sa City Prosecutor's Office," Rada said.
Abarquez filed grave threats complaint against Rada before the City Prosecutors Office Friday accusing the respondent of paying P500,000 on hired killers to liquidate him sometime in November last year.
Abarquez said he learned about the murder plot at around 5:30 p.m. of March 11 when a person who identified himself as Nasser told him that he and his group were hired by Rada, through her bodyguard Bernard, to kill him.
Nasser allegedly told him that they had been conducting surveillance on him since January this year.
Nasser reportedly warned Abarquez to be careful because Rada may hire another group.
Abarquez added that he was able to contact Bernard, who worked as a close-in bodyguard of Rada for sometime.
Bernard reportedly told Abarquez that Rada is angry with him for helping the Brilliantes family in the cases pending between them.
Rada however denied the accusation. She admitted that Bernard was her former bodyguard who quit from his job last February after she scolded him.
Rada said if she indeed ordered Bernard to look for hired killers to liquidate Abarquez then she would have not allowed Bernard to leave his job.
Aside from filing complaint against the NBI, Rada is also set to file disbarment case against Abarquez before the court. She said she might also file libel charges against the lawyer for maliciously imputing a crime against her person.
Rada admitted being shocked after reports about the grave threat complaint against her came out in the news.
She said Abarquez had already done damage on her reputation even before she could answer the charges. (BOT)
