Davao's Valle bows to Yang By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
GANDY Valle of Davao City suffered miscues in the crucial stages of the match to bow out of the San Miguel 9-Ball Asian Tour in the Jakarta leg.
Valle, winner in the Singapore leg last month, lost to Yang Chin-Sun of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals, 6-9, and join fellow Dabawenyo Lee Vann Corteza in the sidelines.
With the score tied at 5-5, Valled muffed a shot while using the bridge and Yang took advantage to run out the 11th rack.
The error proved costly for the Filipino as Yang went on to win the match, allowing Valle to take only one rack from there.
This developed as Efren "Bata" Reyes stayed alive with a nail-biting 9-8 win over Kuo Po-Cheng of Chinese-Taipei in another quarters match.
Reyes, the only Filipino now standing in the Jakarta leg, goes on to meet 16-year-old sensation Wu Chia Ching also of Chinese-Taipei in the semi-finals.
The two were scheduled to play Sunday afternoon at the Hanggar Billiard and Recreation Center.
Wu, runner-up to Valle in the Singapore leg, outplayed Wanshana Poomjaeng of Thailand, 9-2, as he led right from the start and never looked back.
The fifth seed Yang plays Satoshi Kawabata of Japan, the first player to reach the semis after beating Toh Lian-Han of Singapore, 9-8.
