Reyes wins Jakarta leg
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

EFREN "Bata" Reyes is like vintage wine. The more he gets older, the more he gets better.

Flashing the form that won him many international tournaments at the pool table, the 50-year-old Reyes displayed superb shot making skills to subdue Yang Chin-Sun of Chinese Taipei, 11-6, to win the Jakarta leg of the San Miguel 9-Ball Asian Tour Sunday.

Reyes was cool and calculating in the finals match held at the Haggar Billiard and Recreating Center as the Filipino ace broke a 6-6 deadlock and turned a close contest into a rout, capping his triumphant campaign with a pair of combo shots in the 13th and 14th racks.

The victory was worth $10,000 for Reyes, who reached the finals after beating 16-year-old Wu Sia Ching.

Yang earned the right to meet Reyes with a victory over Japan's Satoshi Kawabata in the other semis encounter.

It was also a back-to-win victory for the Filipinos in the annual billiards tour after Gandy Valle won the initial leg in Singapore last month.
