(2nd of three parts)

WE ALSO had a seminar last March 10 for those coming from the livestock sector, in partnership with the Trade and Investment Section of the British Embassy in Manila.

Dubbed as Pig Seminar, the activity focused on the latest pig breeding technologies and genetics in Great Britain. I wish to thank our Livestock Committee Chairperson, Toy Mercado, for spearheading the Chamber's participation in the said seminar.

Post your prayers to the Sun.Star Pope Watch section. Click here.

The Chamber is also continuing its work on the implementation of the expansion phase of the Davao City Community-based Solid Waste Management Project in eight (8) cluster barangays in Toril.

Our Environment Committee, led by its chairperson vice president Jane Tesoro, has been working hard towards the success of this project.

Recently, training on recycling was held among the households of the participating barangays.

Preparations are also underway for the 7th Davao Trade Exhibit or Date 2005 on 7-9 October 2005 at the NCCC Mall.

As of late, the committee chaired by our Executive Vice President Sim Marfori, together with all our sectoral vice presidents have already finalized the booth rates and exhibition layout.

We shall be forwarding the details to you in the coming weeks for your reference and we hope you will participate in this year's DATE either as an exhibitor or sponsor or better yet, both.

Our Chamber Strengthening project under the Pearl2 Program of the Canadian government has finally reached its completion after 18 months of work. I am very happy to tell you that under the project, our Chamber was able to assist three young chambers in Davao Oriental, Nabunturan and Igacos in developing their own organization and making sure that relevant services are being offered by them.

I wish to commend the unselfish dedication of the project team led by Past President and current PCCI Regional Governor for Southeastern Mindanao Romy Serra, our Executive Director Jason Magnaye, Project Consultants Leny Castillo, Jane Tesoro and Prime Hilot, our Business Development Officer Danni Montecillo, and Project Officer Maharlika Cossid.

Last March 14-18, we also sent a team of three (3) led by our Immediate Past President Boy Jucutan to Baguio City to attend a weeklong trainers training on business development. In the coming weeks, I understand the contingent who went to Baguio will be conducting a re-echo session among the members of the things they learned during the training.

Insofar as membership programs are concerned, we will soon be launching a new, dynamic and interactive Chamber website to replace the one that we currently have.

Finishing touches are currently being done to the new site and we expect a grand launch to be conducted during our next GMM.

Meanwhile, I would like to encourage you all to please send to the Chamber via email electronic copies of your corporate logos for uploading to the website.

Your cooperation in this regard will also redound to your benefit as this will help make your exclusive web page more attractive.

Also, I would like to invite our members who are not yet participating in our Privilege Card Program to extend also special privileges in the form of discounts, rebates or whatever to your fellow members.

You may get in touch with our Executive Director Jason Magnaye or Membership Officer Anna Samorro for details of this member-to-member business patronage program.

Lastly, let me again encourage you to participate in our creative membership recruitment program called Bring 2 to Slash Dues where you can be entitled to a 50 percent discount in your membership dues next year by just recruiting two new members this year.

By doing so, you not only put added benefit to your membership but you are at the same time, you are helping increase the strength of the organization that is committed to creating a more conducive and favorable business environment.
