Davao artists mount 'Senswal'

THE Davao Artists Foundation Inc. (Dafi) will open an art exhibition depicting the artists' perceptions on sensuality through drawings, paintings, and photographs at the Ballroom Hallway of the Royal Mandaya Hotel. Aptly titled "Senswal," the show will formally open on April 18 at 6 p.m.

Emilio Escandor, Royal Mandaya's president, said the hotel is happy to accommodate the Davao Artists Foundation and is open to the idea of playing host on a regular basis to the group's shows. The hotel management has always been known for its committed support to the arts.

Gallery J, the even organizer and curator of the exhibit, announced there will be around 30 to 40 works exploring the physical aspect of sensuality through the portrayal of the human anatomy. Some works depict personal experiences on sensuality while other pieces explore the subject using metaphors and symbols.

The rest of Dafi artists tackled sensuality's synonymous themes such as flirtatious behavior, feelings, pleasure in objects, in relationships among others.

To be featured are artworks of varied media and persuasions by Randy Adlawan, April Alboroto, Jay Alensub, Rey Bollozos, Boboy Buenaventura, Bryan Cabrera, Ding de Castro, Carlota de Pio, Abe Garcia Jr., James Gonzales, Rene Jereos, Joseph Rom, and George So.

Dafi, founded in 1998, has continually evolved and developed through the years. Its main objective is to support and protect the needs of its members and work on the continuous education of its visual artist members and promote art awareness in the community.

"Senswal" will be on view until Saturday, April 30. The exhibition is open from daily, free admission. The Royal Mandaya Hotel is situated along J. Palma Gil Street in Davao City.

For further information and inquiries, contact Gallery J at 297-2226 and 299-3041 or Sales Office of the Royal Mandaya at 225-8888.
