82nd victim a case of mistaken identity By Joy G. Romares
A MAN, mistaken by an unidentified motorcycle-riding gunman, died after he was shot outside his house in Dumoy, Talomo District in Davao City, Monday afternoon.
Killed was Conrado Narciso, 44, of Rasay Compound in Dumoy. He was the 82nd victim of vigilante-style killings in the city for this year alone.
Police said the incident happened at around 3 p.m. while Narciso was cleaning his yard.
Witnesses said that two unidentified men arrived onboard a black Honda Wave motorcycle. One of the men, who wore a cap and clad in a red jacket, barged inside Narciso's residence compound and shot him twice.
The suspect then approached his waiting companion and sped off to unknown direction.
Narciso, who was hit in the head and body, died instantly, while police recovered two empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol at the scene of crime.
Police are conducting further investigations to determine the motive of the incident, saying Narciso has no records at the Talomo police precinct.
It was learned that one Jomar Suico, of legal age, son of Narciso's live-in partner, and resident of the same place, was reportedly the target of the suspected vigilantes. Suico has records of theft cases at Talomo police precinct.
Reports also said that Suico is one of the suspects in the series of robbery incidents in Toril.
Narciso, who bears the same description with Suico, has been mistaken by the suspect as Suico.
"Taas pud siya (Narciso) og buhok, medyo bulaw, pareha sila og lawas ug pareha pud sila katas-on, mga 5'4" (Narciso also has long hair, has the same body build with Suico; they were both about 5'4" tall)," Narciso's neighbor said.
Police investigators said they would invite Suico at the precinct for further investigation.
On Saturday, one Melkilad Basingan, 20, of Sandawa Village in Buhangin was also shot dead while standing outside his house at around 10:50 p.m.
The motive of the killing has yet to be established.
