Journalist's kids receive $300 from French media
THE children of slain journalist Marlene Esperat received $300 monetary assistance from the Paris-based Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF or Reporters Without Borders) to help cover their school fees.
The money was personally handed over by RSF Asia-Pacific Desk director Vincent Brossel and RSF news editor Jean-Francois Julliard to Valmie Garcia Mariveles, the elder sister of Esperat on Sunday at Lantaw Marbel Restaurant in Koronadal, South Cotabato.
Julliard said the money given by the RSF was for the educational needs of Esperat's four children.
The two foreign journalists were in Sultan Kudarat to monitor the investigation of the slaying of Esperat. They also visited Esperat's grave.
It was learned from Mariveles that she also received a check worth P5,000 from the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) and from several kindhearted persons who believed in the crusade of Esperat as anti-corruption advocate.
Mariveles said the money given by NUJP would be spent for the quest for justice for Esperat's death.
Esperat was shot to death infront of her two children inside her house Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat on the evening of March 24. (RCB with Ramil Bajo)
