Alcoseba, Pantua arrange rematch
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

MARK Anthony Alcoseba and Miguel Antonio Pantua carved out contrasting semi-final wins Tuesday to arrange a grudge rematch for the boys 18-under crown in the Head Penn Junior Tennis Championships second leg in General Santos City.

Alcoseba knocked off El Santo Santos, 7-5, 6-3, and will gun for his second straight title today against Pantua, who had to flex extra muscles before subduing Duma Boloto, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Pantua is no stranger to Alcosea, having played with the former in many tournaments in the past. Just last week, Alcoseba won the initial leg in Davao City after beating Pantua in the finals.

The two meet again for the second time where Pantua, from the tennis-playing clan of the Pantuas of Marbel, South Cotabato, hopes to avenge his earlier defeat.

In the girls 18-under category, Patricia Adaza booked her second straight finals in two weeks following a hard-earned 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-8 win over Sheryl Freires.

Adaza will meet Macy Serrano for the crown. Serrano earned the right to play Adaza after easily beating Jennifer Cordero, 6-1, 6-2.

Adaza won the Davao leg last week over Alyssa Callejo and, just like Alcoseba, will shoot for her second title this afternoon.

It was not all bad news for Santos. Santos reached the finals in the boys 16-under after ousting Boloto, 6-3, 7-5, in the semis.

Juan Carlo Pantua won the other semis match over Andrei Dizon, 6-3, 7-5, to arrange a finals date with Santos.

Steffi Dizon, meanwhile, barged into the finals of the girls 16-under following a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Flora Mae Bagaforo.

Serrano earned the right to play Dizon in the finals after eliminating Debrah Samal, 6-1, 6-2.

Other semis results saw Andrei Dizon winning over Princeton Gerapusco, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3, in the boys 14-under, Cindy Gerapusco defeating Maria Corina Pimentel, 6-1, 6-0, and Florilyn Freires whipping Jecca Mendoza, 7-5, 6-3, in the girls 14-under.
