Franchising board to summon public transpo drivers
By Aurea A. Gerundio

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will summon public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers who did not ply their route Monday, LTFRB administrative officer Edgar Violan told reporters.

Violan said there was an order from the LTFRB main office to list down the plate numbers of the PUJs that plied its designated route Monday.

Violan said if the LTFRB finds reasonable cause, the drivers who missed their route during Monday's transportation strike would be excused from penalties.

"The penalty may be in the form of monetary fines or cancellation of franchise. Depende na lang sa evaluation ng reponse nila sa summon. Under the franchise, the PUJ drivers are not allowed to join activities inimical to public interest such as transportation strike," Violan said.

Violan said the LTFRB personnel have accounted a few PUJs that plied its designated route Monday.

"Konti lang talaga ang bumiyahe ngayon. The strike paralyzed 98 percent of public transportation. Whether the drivers joined the strike or not, we have yet to determine after mabigyan na sila ng summon," Violan said.
