Gold rush mountain is army's top concern
By Ben O. Tesiorna

PEACE and security in the gold rush mountain of Diwalwal is the priority concern and agenda of the new commander of the Army's 404th Brigade based in Mawab, Compostela Valley.

Colonel Ricardo Morales, chief of the Army's 404th Brigade, admitted his transfer in the brigade is mainly because of the National Government's concern for Diwalwal.

Asked to assess the present situation in Diwalwal, Morales said the area is now "quiet". He added though that production in the area is also low due to the various restrictions the government is implementing in the area.

"Parang 40 tons a day (ore) na lang yata ang production ng Diwalwal ngayon compared to before na umaabot daw sila ng up to 400 tons a day," Morales revealed.

It was learned there are now two government agencies running the operation and setting up office in Diwalwal. These are the Natural Resources and Mining Development Corporation (NRMDC) that is the business arm of the government in the Diwalwal operation, and the Natural Resources Development Corporation (NRDC) headed by retired general Victor Corpus.

The NRDC is tasked to promote and undertake the development and use of technologies and systems that complement the utilization of natural resources not just in Diwalwal but also all over the country.
