Guvs ok ID system, scrapping of youth council
By Raquel C. Bagnol

THE Governor's League of the Philippines recently endorsed the implementation of the national ID system to make things easier for the Filipinos in both private and government transactions.

This was according to North Cotabato Governor Manny Piñol in a press conference at the Yellow Fin Restaurant on Friday.

"The governors came up with a unanimous decision to endorse the national ID system to once and for all eliminate the multiple IDs we carry for various transactions and make things easier for us," Piñol said.

"This is a positive move for the country," he said.

Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio R. Bunye earlier said the use of the identification system is now a worldwide practice and is already being implemented in more developed countries like the United States, United Kingdom and many other nations in Europe, and even in Asia.

In the same forum, Piñol said the governor's league also backed the scrapping of the Youth Council.

"The youth are initiated into the political arena very early and this is not ideal for them," Piñol said, adding that there are alternative mechanisms to train the youth for future leadership.

"We need to conceptualize a different kind of training for these future leaders, something that would include agriculture, livelihood and other trainings instead of initiating them into the harsh realities of the political world," Piñol said.
