Hometown netters advance in CDO

HOMETOWN bets advanced at the start of the third leg Head Penn Junior Tennis Tour at the Nazareth Tennis Courts in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) City Monday.

CDO player Derrick Dave Alcantara toyed with hapless Dave Suico 6-0, 6-1 while Neiljun Posesano scourged Kent Malalis 6-0, 6-0 in 10-under unisex. Romeo Cabrera whipped Paolo Almirante 6-0, 6-1 even as Mark Bagonoc overwhelmed Sean Beduya, 6-1, 6-1.

In boys 12-under, Marco Araneta was too much for Archie Callao 6-2, 6-2 while Robert Ortellano downed Ricard Fuentes 6-0, 6-1, Michael Jurao overcame Angelo Lacar 6-4, 6-0 and Michael Cantillo walloped Ken Narvasa 6-4, 6-0.

Noelito Pacana and Kent Tac-an also shared the limelight in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned netfest sponsored by Dynamic Sports Corporation, Head tennis racket and Penn official balls.

Pacana beat Franklin Torrefranca 6-3, 6-2 while Tac-an booted out Leandro Fernandez, 6-2, 6-1.

Nazareth Tennis Club president Jeremias Alas welcomed the 150 entries entered in the tournament as boys 14-under top-seed and Head-sponsored player Francis Casey Alcantara led the oath of sportsmanship.

Davao City standout El Santo Santos along with siblings Steffi and Andrei Dizon missed the Cagayan de Oro leg to intensify their training stint Tuesday and on Wednesday as members of the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) selection for the Palarong Pambansa.

Rizal Memorial Colleges' Santos recently clinched the boys 16-under title over Juan Carlo Pantua of General Santos City 6-3, 6-3 then took runner-up honors in the 18-under event in the just-concluded Presidential Cup in General Santos. (MLS)
