DTI-DCFO director Teolulo Pasawa said in an interview Tuesday the possible reasons of the price increase are distribution cost and supply and demand situation.

"Since ilang beses na tumaas ang gasolina, definitely may slight impact 'yan sa prices ng manufactured goods. Based on our study, for every P1 per liter increase of gasoline, may two percent impact 'to sa retailed price ng manufactured goods. Per our monitoring, wala naman kaming na-observe na pagtaas sa presyo ng ibang produkto," he said.

To recall, the last increase noted in the prices of products, which are using tin cans as containers was in January. The increase was brought about by the five percent increase incurred in tin in the world market.

"Right now, may mangilan-ngilan na products na gumagamit ng tin cans who are developing substitute packaging materials like pouches. Through this, hindi na sila maaapektuhan if ever na magtaas uli prseyo ng tin sa world market," he said.

Pasawa said that weeks from now, consumers can expect that sardines, milk, and other canned goods will already be in pouches.
