Stephen, Arela's elder son, said that police released suspect Arnold Mier, of Panabo City, due to lack of evidence.

Stephen said no witness cooperated with the police prompting the TMC to temporarily release Mier.

"Nagahulat gani mi nga bisan diri sa haya naay moadto nga witness, wala man gyud (We are waiting for a witness to visit here, but no one came)," Stephen said.

Stephen said Mier's truck, which was discovered to have some scratches and bloodstains in its rear portion, was brought to the Crime Laboratory for investigation but yielded negative result.

"Wala man nag-match ang sample sa dugo nga nakuha sa truck sa akong papa (The blood sample from the truck did not match with my father's)," Stephen said.

Stephen said further investigation is being conducted by the TMC.

"Halos ang nagatabang nagaimbestiga, mga kauban ni papa (My father's co-workers are the ones conducting the investigation)," Stephen said.

Arela, 44, who will be celebrating his birthday on April 26, will be buried on Monday, April 25.

Arela was onboard his motorcycle at around 5:30 p.m., Monday along Barrio Pampanga chasing a ten-wheeler truck due to traffic violation when he was sideswiped by the rear portion of the truck.

Arela was thrown to the other lane and was hit by an approaching passenger jeepney.

The driver of the truck then sped off bound to the north.

Some concerned citizens brought Arela to the Davao Medical Center, but he died at past 8 p.m. at the emergency room of the hospital due to head injuries.

On Tuesday, truck driver Arnold Mier was arrested by the TMC in Panabo City but was released for of lack of evidence. (JGR)
