Gov't doc suspects mayor, vice-mayor have Aids

A MAYOR, vice-mayor, lawyer, and a police officer in Davao del Sur are now being suspected with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Aids).

Dr. Gil Mantilla, assistant provincial health officer of Davao del Sur, said the victims might have acquired the disease after they have been a customer of a guest relations officer (GRO) who was found positive of HIV/Aids.

Mantilla said two weeks ago, an employee of a non-government organization asked him if they could confine a woman, positive with Aids at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.

The woman, name withheld, is allegedly a resident in one of the barangays in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

Mantilla added that the woman formerly worked in Japan, but now works as a GRO at a videoke bar along Roxas Extension in Digos City.

Mantilla said the girl tried to apply to work again in Japan, but she failed since she was discovered to be positive of HIV/Aids when she had her medical examination in Manila.

The woman has allegedly a police live-in partner, who was a member of the Traffic Management Group in Digos City.

The policeman, on the other hand, is now assigned in Davao City.

The woman, aside from her policeman lover, has also had a 'contact' with a lawyer, a mayor and a vice mayor in Davao del Sur.

Mantilla said they are conducting thorough investigation to identify who have had relationship with the woman.

Mantilla added that the woman, who is now so skinny and only weighs 15-20 kilos, is now under the custody of the Department of Health in Bansalan. (JGR/NC)
