Entry of buses affects transport in Samal By Raquel C. Bagnol
* Most affected are the multicabs plying the Peñaplata-Babak route and the boats transporting passengers from Sasa wharf to Babak
THE advent of the buses plying the Agdao-Peñaplata route has greatly improved the lifestyle of the residents of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), but affected other transport groups in the area.
This was bared by Igacos City Administrator Cleto Gales in an interview Friday.
Gales said most affected are the multicabs plying the Peñaplata-Babak route and the boats transporting passengers from Sasa wharf to Babak.
"Based on rough estimate, the boats lost 50 percent of their passengers to the buses," Gales said.
He also said buses are the priority of the ferryboats in Sasa.
Ten buses (Island City Express) are now operating with its terminal at the Central Warehouse in Agdao, and at the Central Warehouse in Peñaplata.
"The buses will not go straight to Peñaplata proper so the multicabs can still get passengers," Gales added.
Gales said the fare from Agdao to Babak is P20, and P30 from Agdao to Peñaplata.
"Samaleños are happy for the development because they don't have to go through Sasa market which is crowded, wet and muddy, especially in the afternoons," Noel Daquiaog, Igacos information officer said.
Daquioag said the senior citizens are among the benefited ones since the buses started operating on April 12.
"They don't have to step into the pump boats which prove hard for their advanced age, " Daquiaog said.
