Charges filed v. 8 for airport bombing

MANILA -- Eight alleged extremists, all at large, and five unidentified individuals have been named by military intelligence officials in a charge sheet filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) as the primary suspects in the Davao International Airport bombing two years ago that killed 23 people and injured 127 others.

In a three-page letter, the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (Isafp), through Major Ser-Me Ayuyao, said the group, which had been arrested but were later released, were behind the bombing.

Named in the Isafp complaint were Abdul Manap Mentang alias Al Mok Panalangin, Morsid Mubpon alias Daud Guinaid, Rahman Camile alias Barok, Rio Dimson Manamba alias Bobot, Abdul Jabide alias Bedz, Odin Abu hamza alias Ped and Zulkipli, an Indonesian national arrested in Malaysia.

Likewise named were a certain Yasser and five John Does.

"To date, all of the above-named accused could no longer be located and their whereabouts are unknown," the Isafp said, with much of the case based on "extra judicial admissions" made after their arrest, when in an interview, Mentang confessed to his involvement and participation.

In September 2004, Mentang was arrested along with Mubpon, Camile and Manamba.

Last December, the four were presented to the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in City but were later released upon order of the court.

According to the law enforcers' version of the events, the alleged members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which had been trained by the Southeast Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiyah, planned the attack using a pipe bomb. The group staged the attack on March 4, 2003. (BBP)
