Health dep't assures swift action on person with HIV
By Ben O. Tesiorna

THE Department of Health (DOH) 11 assured the public that it is taking actions on the case of a guest relations officer (GRO) rumored to be positive of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and yet is reportedly still active in her occupation.

In a telephone interview Sunday, Assistant Health Secretary Dolores Castillo said they have action teams already in placed to take appropriate actions on cases like this.

"Alam na nila ang gagawin diyan," Castillo assured. She however admitted that her office has not yet received any official report about the incident.

Dr. Gil Mantilla, assistant provincial health officer of Davao del Sur, recently divulged to the public his suspicion that a mayor, vice-mayor, lawyer, and a police officer in Davao del Sur might have contracted the deadly virus after the officials were reported to have association with the woman.

Mantilla said that two weeks ago an employee of a non-government organization asked him if they could confine a woman, positive of HIV, at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.

Mantilla added that the woman formerly worked in Japan, but now works at a videoke bar in Digos City.

Mantilla said the girl tried to apply for work again in Japan, but she didn't make it after the reglamentary Aids test for overseas Filipino workers in Manila showed she has the HIV.

Mantilla said they are conducting thorough investigation to identify who has had contact with the woman.
