28 Mindanao firms join world food show By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza
THE Growth with Equity in Mindanao 2 (GEM2) program, along with 28 companies from Mindanao, will be at the World Trade Center (WTC) in Manila starting Friday until Sunday to join International Food Exhibition (Ifex) Philippines 2005.
The event is organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (Citem) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
GEM 2 export market development manager Agnes Luz said in an interview that a total of 100 buyers representing 16 countries are expected to visit the exhibit. Of this figure, 69 are Chinese businessmen.
"This is really a great opportunity for us, not just to showcase our products but as well as to get possible buyers," she said.
The event will feature 270 exhibitors from all over the country.
Products to be showcased in the exhibit are couture cuisine; processed, fresh, and general foods; fish and marine products; regional foods; organic and natural foods; and allied services.
Among the Mindanao-based companies participating in the exhibit are: Amley, processor of dried mangoes; Philippine Fruits International Corp., processor of dried fruits and puree; See's International, processor of banana chips; GSL; Koki; Sunbliss, all in banana chips manufacturing; Tito Mike's, processor of bottled sardines; A & J seafoods; TSP, maker of frozen and value-added tuna products; Dole Philippines, both its vegetable and fruit divisions; Lucile's, processor of fruit juices; and General Santos companies sponsored by their City Government.
Some of the island's participants to the event are industry organizations such as the Fruit Industry Development Council (FIDC) of Region 12, which will showcase forzen and processed fruits; Food Processors Association of Davao del Norte; Federation of North Cotabato Banana Growers; and Northern Mindanao Vegetable Growers Association (Normin Veggies).
