More jobs for Techvoc grads available: labor dep't
THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 11 revealed fresh graduates who finished technical vocational courses are likely to get jobs first.
Dole 11 Regional Director Maria Gloria Tango said Tuesday that based on their records, there is a considerable number of available jobs that require a diploma on technical vocational (TechVoc) courses.
However, she was not able to give any figures. "Ang mga hard-to-fill talaga na trabaho ay 'yong nangngailangan ng technical vocational diploma. Employable as of now TechVoc talaga. Ang parents kasi they seem to frown if categorized as blue collar ang trabaho ng anak nila. Our students really are geared towards taking up bachelor courses, 'yong mga four-year courses," she said.
As this developed, the agency recently partnered with the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda), Department of Education (DepEd), and Commission on Higher Education (Ched) to review and present recommendations to various schools on what courses to offer.
"Some schools should really review their course offerings in order to meet the demand of the industries. Sa case nga ngayon, more on technical vocational ang hinahanap," she said. Tango said that those who are taking up TechVoc courses should never worry in case they have plans of proceeding to a four-year course.
"There's a new Executive Order now na nagsasabing kapag graduate ka ng vocational course, 'yong mga subjects mo ay make-credit if ever na mag-proceed ka into a bachelor course," she said.
Tango is optimistic that through this move, the problem on job mismatch will be minimized, if not completely eliminated. (JMM)
