Tourism players to visit Korea, Japan, Hong Kong
By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

VARIOUS tour operators and agents and tourism officials in Davao City will embark on a series of sales mission in Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong next month, in a bid to expedite the entry of the tourists coming from these markets to the city.

Southern Philippine Tourism Council (SMTC) chair Mary Ann "Baby" Montemayor said Tuesday the groups of tourism stakeholders will be divided into three groups in order to conduct a thorough promotion efforts in each of the three foreign markets.

Montemayor will lead the group who will cover Hong Kong. They will be in Hong Kong from June 9 to 12.

Those who will travel to Japan, from June 8 to 11, are members of Davao Tourism Association (Data), to be led by its president Art Boncato, and City Tourism Office (CTO) chief Id Acaylar.

City Council Committee on Tourism chair Councilor Susabel Reta will lead the group who will go to Korea from June 2 to 5. They are expected to convince Korean tourists to visit the city.

"We are in the process of encouraging more participants to join us. The tour packages that we are going to bring there are already done. For the Hong Kong market, nasa English language pa rin ang promotional materials na dadalhin since most of the Chinese can speak the language. For the Japan and Korean markets, we translated the promotional materials into their respctive languages kasi nga hindi ganoon karami sa kanila ang marunong mag-English. We'll bring as many brochures and other promotional materials as we can," Montemayor said.

The tour packages will be more on golf and dive destinations and incomparable festivals of the city, such as the Kadayawan.

Based on the statistics cited by Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano during his last visit here, these three markets have an aggregate number of 60 million people who travel around the world yearly.

If the country will get at least 10 percent of this figure, he added, huge investments can already be infused to the country's economy.
