High Tea Fashion at Marco Polo By Jojie Alcantara Witerary
ANOTHER successful High Tea Fashion Show launched by Marco Polo this month brought a stir to the community as the runway was filled with elegantly designed outfits from Chimes, a Felcris Specialty store, and the House of Laurel.
Now on its third series, the recently conclude event was called the "Executive Class High Tea Fashion Show", because it featured not just your typical fashion models, but Davao's group of admirable people, who are considered the Movers and Shakers in their respective sectors. These individuals gathered for one rainy afternoon to showcase a fun side of their personalities and the way they exude power through good fashion sense.
The lobby was filled with a rapt audience as one by one the models came out wearing Chimes' selected collections from the sporty Quicksilver and casual Freeway, the feminine styles of Plains and Prints, the trendy Dockers and Jack Nicklaus for men, and the sexy curves of Chocolate.
For the power women who are also working moms, Manila couturier Sam Laurel dressed them in fabulous lines of soft, colored fabrics of blouses, skirts and gowns from the House of Laurel, particularly Nine Months, a label that befits the pregnant Moms whose beautiful glow exude on the runway. Add to that the eye-catching Get Happy beads and accessories designed by a young entrepreneur named Happy, and one becomes a full classy fashionista.
Davao's Most Admired Executives who joined the runway were as follows: From the banking industry were Gel Ferrer (Manager, Provincial Cardbanking Head, BPI), Leslie Anna Ng-Cruz (Madrazo Branch Head, PS Bank), Pamela Overly (UCPB Magsaysay), and Grace Saavedra (One Network Bank, Liaison Office).
From the medical field, strutted Dr. Karen Alabado (Dermatologist, Skin Doctors), Dr. Manuel Belisario (Urologist, Davao Doctors), Dr. Pacita Belisario (dermatologist, Skin Doctors), Nelson Obeņita (Westmont Pharma), and Jasper Poblete (Galderma).
The Entrepreneurs who proved themselves smart and sassy were Golda Dumdum (pProprietor, Blooms Facial Center), Liloh Evangelista (owner, Lilohi Enterprise), Sharon Lee (owner, Skycom), Annie Lim (Proprietor, Gifts from the Heart by Annie), and Cheryl Uy (owner, Davao Oil Terminal Corp.). The Government Sector boasts of dashing and daring men like lawyer Karlo Nograles (Chief of Staff, Office of Congressman Prospero Nograles), Yohanan Eyal Overly (Account Analyst, Philhealth), and Frederick Villegas (State Audit Examiner, Commission on Audit).
From the Private Sectors joined Donna Batolome (Area Manager, New York Bank Assurance), Luis Conrad de Jesus (Asst. General Manager, Alson's Properties), Ross Luga (Communications Head, Davao Light & Power Corp.), Giovanna McKay (Admin Officer, Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao), Vanessa Ong (Curtain Designer, Kurtina ATBP.), Dothy Vadil (Supervisor, Triumph Interational), and Ged Mendoza-Villegas (National Sales Director, Mary Kay Phils).
The Media Practitioners who bravely sashayed were Marissa Te Eng Fo (columnist, SunStar and former Hyatt USA and Manhattan Meridien Hotel executive), Ian Garcia (Columnist, Mindanao Times and TV host, ABS-CBN), Jeanette Lomanta (businesswoman and TV host, ABS-CBN), Maikee Aportadera (TV News Anchor-Studio 23 News Central and Events Organizer), Ana Vi Laxa-Ramos (Asst., Marketing Manager, 93.1 Crossover Davao), and one who is just happy to have made it, this writer, Jojie Alcantara (Columnist, SunStar Davao and proprietor, Punchlines Design Studio).
