Water district told: Explain water rate hike
TWO Davao City councilors summoned Davao City Water District (DCWD) officials on Thursday to appear before the City Council regular session on May 31 to discuss the proposed 60 percent water rate increase.
In the letter addressed to DCWD general manager Wilfred Yamson dated May 19, Councilors Nilo G. Abellera and Danilo C. Dayanghirang said the invitation of the DCWD to all council members to attend Friday's meeting is also short notice.
The councilors said inviting the council without supplying them the financial statement and official documents of the water district's petition to the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) makes it hard for them to comprehend what the DCWD really wants from them.
"We have been requesting the same so that we can discuss it as a body intelligently. What we have are the audited reports from the Commission on Audit covering year 2000 to 2002 only. The rest are some unofficial smuggled documents from your district given to us by your employees," the councilors said.
The councilors believe that the proper venue for the SP and DCWD officials to discuss the proposed water rate adjustment is before the council session. (AAG)
