Kiddies' triathlon kicks off Sunday

THE 1st Davao City Kids Only Triathlon, dubbed "Kids playing for kids who can't", kicks off at 6 a.m. on Sunday at the Ladislawa Country Club in Buhangin.

Spokesperson Maritess del Rosario of the organizing Triathlon Association of Davao Inc. (Triad) on Thursday said, "Proceeds of the race will benefit children cancer patients at the Davao Medical Center. Most of them are between four to eight years old."

Del Rosario told Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) members in their weekly sport forum that close to 30 entries will join the three-division event.

"At least 20 have already registered to join the boys and girls kiddo category for seven to eight years old, junior for nine to 10 and senior for 11 to 12 years old," del Rosario said.

Race director Brian Leyritana added, "The kiddo division will cover 100-meter swim, 1.5 kilometer bike and 400-meter run. The junior and senior categories will be a 100-meter swim, three kilometer bike and 800-meter run competition."

Individual awards will be given to the top three winners in each category.

Jollibee, Globe Gizmo, Matina Town Square, NCCC Mall, Danny Robles and Holiday Spa are the major backers of the race.

One Nokia phonekit will be raffled off to the participants. (MLS)
