Team, individual awards in Diao softball tourney
TEAM and individual awards are up for grabs in the 1st Balmes Diao Sr. Memorial Cup Fast Pitch Softball Tournament that gets underway on Sunday at the PTA field.
Eric Diao said, "There will be prizes for the top three teams and individual awardees like the RBI King, Homerun King, Best Pitch and Most Valuable Player."
Diao, who guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn yesterday, however, said they are still finalizing the cash prizes to be given away to the team winners.
He said said they expect between eight to 10 teams in the tournament to be played every Sunday until August.
"There is a team from Tagum City and one from Panabo while the General Santos team has yet to confirm its participation," Diao added.
The rest of the participants will come from Davao with early favorites University of Mindanao, Rizal Memorial Colleges and Davao City Water District.
A motorcade will usher in the opening of the tournament with the entire Diao clan spearheading the event that is sanctioned by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) under regional director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia. (MLS)
