Trade dep't chief meets with labor, consumer groups
By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

TRADE and Industry Secretary Juan Santos is scheduled to visit Davao City Tuesday to meet with various consumer and labor groups in a bid to address present issues and concerns confronting these sectors.

Before proceeding to the Grand Men Seng Hotel for the meeting, Santos will conduct an ocular inspection first of the Agdao public market where he will also meet with members of the Agdao Market Vendors Cooperative.

Santos will likewise turn over to the market officials' two-price bulletins that will serve as price guide of the consumers who are buying their goods at the said market.

"Basically, Santos would just like to know the issues and concerns of the consumers. Through this, he can already do something on how to solve these issues," said Department of Trade and Industry 11 Information Officer May Franco said Monday.

From the Agdao public market, Santos will immediately proceed to Grand Men Seng Hotel for a meeting with the labor and consumer sectors, along with the manufacturers and distributors of basic commodities such as the SM Supermarket, Davao Central Warehouse, NCCC, Felcris Supermart, Centro Supermart, Gaisano Mall, Toril Sunmark Corporation, Fortuna Supermarket, and Park 'n Shop.

"Secretary Santos together with the ConsumerNet and Association of Trade Union will sign a solidarity pact para sa collaborative effort nila to monitor prices of basic commodities," Franco said.
