A doctor launches a book
By Marissa S. Te Eng Fo

A HUSBAND, father, son, doctor, writer, and so much more, Dr. R. Dennis J. Garcia was in Davao City to launch a book he wrote about his heritage and his forefathers.

We must always be proud of our heritage and culture because this is what makes us unique. And for Dr. Dennis Garcia to document it is really something! "Awesome!!" is what I can say.

The book, entitled "Davao Pioneers and Public Servants: Pablo Suazo, Tomas Monteverde, Leon and Milagros Garcia and Manuel Garcia" starts with the origin of the clan, continues to show documentation of their educational achievements in different renowned schools in the country and around the world.

The book also discusses the positions in the government occupied by members of the family and continues to show the contributions of the pioneering family to the progress of the city. The master of ceremonies, childhood friend and cousin Sonia Villarica-Garcia, DOT 11 regional director, handled the program in beautiful precision.

Starting off with an invocation to the review and critiquing of the book by good friend of the family, Sunstar.Davao publisher Antonio M. Ajero followed by the introduction of the readers by Dr. Louie T. Gahol, City Councilor Tomas Monteverde IV, Albert Q. Garcia, Jocelyn G. Ang, lawyer Mylene G. Albano, Manuel J. Garcia, Jr., Rep. Vincent J. Garcia, Malou M. Sian. The program was nded by remarks from the author himself.

The Alberto Lounge inside Villa Margarita along Lanang, Davao City was filled with family, friends and book enthusiasts who wanted to know more about Davao and its history. I watched the author's wife, (I will describe her as simplicity-in-beauty-at-its-best) Vivian de Venecia-Garcia, daughter of Jose de Venecia, as she shared Dr. Dennis Garcia's triumph. Quite a happy sight for two lovely people!

Among those who came were owners of Villa Margarita Binggoy and his lovely wife Baby Montemayor; Palaisdaan, right next to Villa Margarita and Sizzling Pinoy at the Venue owners Malou and Albert Sian; Councilors Nilo Abellera, Pete Lavina, my lovely friend sweet lady Susabelle Reta, Titas Betty Cabreros, Purita Rodriguez, Fortune Castillo, young as ever Pat Montemayor, pretty woman Baby Quindoy-Garcia, Lilian Abella, Dr, Alexis Jamora, artist Josie Tionko, amiable Solita Hizon-Imperial, Perla Palma Gil, Aida Rivera-Ford, Titos Chiching Rodriguez of famed Paradise Island Resort, Tony Garcia, Nonoy Garcia, Arthur Garcia, Amy Garcia of Hotel Galeria, looking slim Margie Moran-Floirendo, well loved vice mayor Louie Bonguyan and more.
