7 more 'last two' collectors nabbed

ANOTHER seven alleged collectors of the illegal numbers game "last two" were arrested in separate incidents by members of the anti-illegal gambling team of the Santa Ana police precinct on Saturday.

Detained at the Santa Ana police precinct are: Thomas Tolen, 42, sidewalk vendor, of Sitio San Miguel in Agdao; Rico Nueque, 26, of San Antonio, Agdao; a certain Lucila Pantanosas, 57, self-employed, of 36 Lizada Street; Nevily Cajuste, 29, of Purok 3 at Trading in Quezon Boulevard; Noemi Ramoran, 31, jobless, of Purok 9, Lupo Diaz, Barrio Obrero; Dolores Castillo, 31, store owner, of Barangay Aquino, Agdao; and one Arlene Fornolles, 39, waitress, of Aurora Street, Davao City.

The suspects are facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602 (Republic Act 9287 also known as the Comprehensive Anti-Illegal Gambling Act).

Recovered from the suspects were a total amount of P625 and gambling paraphernalia.

The anti-illegal gambling teams were led by Senior Police Officer 3 Francisco Maningo and Police Officer 3 Jeffrey Grant Bangcas of the Santa Ana police.

Tolen was along Gempesaw Street soliciting bets for "last two" when frisked by the police at around 4:20 p.m.

Meanwhile, at around 5:50 p.m., Nueque, Cajuste and Ramonan were arrested inside the Agdao public market.

The suspects were caught in the act soliciting bets to their customers.

Recovered in their possession were several pad stubs, tally sheets, gambling tips and pens.

Pantanosas, on the other hand, was arrested along Santa Ana Avenue corner Sales Street. At around 7 p.m., Castillo was inside her sari-sari store when frisked by the police.

Fornolles was inside Liza Kitchenette along Roxas Avenue when police caught her in the act of soliciting bets.

On Thursday, six alleged "last two" collectors were arrested by the Santa Ana police. Senior Police Officer 3 Francisco Maningo said they are hoping their operations against illegal gambling will serve as a lesson to those who are still engaged in the illegal activity. (JGR)
