Man dies on eve of wedding day By Joy G. Romares
A MAN died on the eve of his wedding after the motorcycle he was riding smashed on a jeepney in Toril, Davao City, Friday.
The victim was identified as one Raniel Sale, 26, a baker, native of Malita in Davao del Sur, and resident of Ilocano Village in Toril.
Sale did not reach his wedding day Saturday as he was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital in Toril.
Information gathered showed that the incident occurred at around 8 p.m. while Sale was onboard his motorcycle on his way to the Vales Beach in Toril.
It was learned that Sale was supposed to fetch a friend from the resort, but while traveling along the national highway in Toril, a Lawin-type jeepney appeared and hit him.
Sale was thrown to the ground and banged his head on the cemented road.
Meanwhile, the jeeney driver (name not identified) brought Sale to a hospital in Toril where the victim was declared dead.
In a radio interview, Sale's father said that prior to the accident, Sale and his fiancée sang a duet in the latter's house.
"Nagkanta-kanta silang duha, till death do us part ilang gikanta bag-o nihawa akong anak kay naay sugaton sa may Vales (They sang their theme song Till Death Do Us Part before my son left to fetch a friend in Vales)," Sale's father said.
Sale's father added that he and other relatives arrived from Malita at around 6 p.m. on that same day to attend his son's wedding the day after.
Sale's father said that they do not have money for the burial of his son since they spent their money in preparing for their son's wedding.
"Nagdala na mi og mga ihawunon, baboy ug mga kanding (We already brought hog and cattle for the celebration)," Sale's father said.
Sale's fiancé, on the other hand, begged not to be interviewed.
Sale's girlfriend is a cashier at the bakery where Sale works. The two were going out for the past five years before they decided to settle down. It was not known whether Sale's family will file charges against the jeepney driver.
