Pentagon member falls in Kudarat
AUTHORITIES have arrested Saturday morning a suspected member of the notorious Pentagon kidnap for ransom gang allegedly involved in the abduction of several personnel of an oil company doing an exploration and drilling activities in Maguindanao province eight years ago.
Senior Inspector Dindo Duruin, intelligence and investigation chief of the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office (SKPPO), identified the suspect only as Khadafy alias "Toks", believed to be a member of the Pentagon kidnap gang operating in Central Mindanao.
Khadafy was on board a Kawazaki motorcycle with plate number MV-1989 when he was arrested by the joint elements of the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division (RIID) and Lambayong police station.
Duruin said Khadafy was arrested by the police operatives at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the national highway of Purok Maligaya, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.
Khadafy, a resident of the Sultan Sa Barongis town in Maguindanao, was reportedly on his way to Lambayong proper when flagged down by the government operatives.
"May nagtimbre sa amin na dadaan daw siya (si Khadafy) sa ganoong oras at araw. So, immediately, we passed the information to the Lambayong PNP and the RIID operatives," Duruin said.
Senior Inspector Junny Buenacosa, police chief of the Lambayong town, said Khadafy was arrested based on the strength of a warrant (with criminal case number 2411) issued by Judge Cader Endan of the Cotabato City regional trial court branch 13 for kidnapping.
Buenacosa said Khadafy was one of the accused in the kidnapping for ransom of Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) personnel at Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao last January 19, 1997.
The suspected Pentagon member was brought by the element of the RIID-12 to the Police Regional Office in General Santos City for further interrogations.
Khadafy is to be presented to Chief Supt. Danilo Mangila, the new police chief of Central Mindanao.
Mangila replaced Chief Superintendent Antonio Billones who will reportedly assumed as the new police chief of Southern Mindanao.
The United States has classified the Pentagon gang as a terrorist organization along with the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group. (RCB with Ramil Bajo)
