TWO Moro leaders, including the son of a village chief, were killed and two others were critically wounded after unidentified gunmen opened fire, using an M-16 rifle and Garand rifle at the motorcycle they were riding in Barangay Lagandang in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat Sunday morning.
Condemning the attack, Sultan Kudarat Governor Datu Pax Mangudadatu immediately ordered Senior Superintendent Paniares Adap, provincial police chief of Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office (SKPPO), to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and to launch a manhunt operation as soon as the suspects are identified.
Police identified the fatalities as Datu Kawit Ambalatan and Datu Dudin Ambalatan, 32-year-old son of Lagandang Barangay Captain Pasandalan Ambalatan. Both are reportedly Muslim leaders of Lagandang.
The victims did not reach the hospital alive. They succumbed to bullet wounds in different parts of their bodies.
Wounded were Wendi Ambalatan, 30-year-old and the wife of Datu Dudin Ambalatan, and 17-year-old Pey Minandang, reported to be the niece of one of the fatalities.
The wounded victims were immediately brought to the Isulan Doctor's Clinic and Hospital. As of press time Monday morning, the victims were still under critical conditions.
Senior Inspector Dindo Duruin, chief of the intelligence and investigation section of the SKPPO, said two unidentified men fired at the motorcycle driven by Datu Dudin Ambalatan, upon reaching the boundary road of Lagandang and Bual In Isulan at around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Reports said the investigating team coming from the Isulan police station recovered more than 60 spent shells of M-16 rifle and Garand rifle.
