Environment officer, Moro vendors unite for clean-up drive By Aurea A. Gerundio
DAVAO City's Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) has tied up with a Moro vendors' association to clean up sidewalks and overpasses where they display their products.
Cenro Chief Elisa Madrazo said Randy Usman, deputy mayor for Muslim community, has expressed support for the Cenro's project.
Madrazo said majority of vendors in the sidewalks and overpasses in the downtown area are Moro residents of the city.
"Mas maayo pud kung magtinabangay (It's better to cooperate) with the vendors in maintaining the sidewalks and overpasses clean," Madrazo said, adding that many people have refused to use overpasses because of foul odor.
Madrazo said Cenro has also encouraged barangay captains in the areas, where there are overpasses, to ask for sponsorship for the lightning and improvement of these skywalks.
Madrazo said the Cenro intensifies clean up drive on the streets and in public markets as it aims to get the award for the most clean and green city of the Philippines.
"Palagi na lang kasi runner-up lang ang Davao. Let us all work together in making our city clean," Madrazo said.
