Young Davao swimmers hailed By Marianne L. Saberon
DAVAO City's lean contingent arrived Monday after competing in the Southeast Asian Games (Seag) age-group swimming competition in Brunei Darussalam recently.
Davao City Swimming Association (DCSA) president Deedee Gonzalez, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said, "It was a very worthwhile exposure trip for the kids except of course for Celina (Gonzalez) who made it with a bronze."
Celina, niece of the DCSA chief, salvaged a bronze medal in the 50-meter butterfly event.
"The rest of the Davao swimmers all broke their best time. They were all out. They all gave their best. Now, at least we know our targets. We will start training immediately for next year's competition in Indonesia," Gonzalez said.
Davao bets Jose Joaquin Gonzalez, Alyanna Malabanan and Francis Isaguirre also formed part of the Team Philippines that saw action in Brunei.
Celina was the most bemedaled female athlete in the 2005 Palarong Pambansa (national games) in Iloilo City with three golds to her name while Malabanan, had one gold, one silver and one bronze.
Jose Joaquin and Isaguirre also won medals.
